So I keep getting notes from my sister saying "it's been a while since June 1, 2011", "what's happening in your life?" etc. etc. and it occurred to me that the reason was simply that she misses me talking about myself on the world wide web. Well no fear, Melissa, I'm back!
So let's go back to June. Yes. I pulled out my calendar. Stop judging me.
June 11: my sister got married (and so did her husband... but you already knew that). Their wedding was amazingly fantastic and wonderful in a big and serious way. All had a great time, Melissa (and Tyler) was beautiful, and the day that called for showers turned out to be the most perfect day ever. Here's a picture of the lovely pair and their wedding party!
It's not the BEST of the pictures we have but I deleted my facebook (tell you about that on a later post) and have yet to receive her jump drive with all of the pictures. This is the best we have for now. Then, Sunday (fathers day.. I'm a bad child) I had a fundraiser for Kyle Adams, the 19 year-old that was killed in the house fire... (Mentioned in my May 27th blog about a hundred years ago). The fundraiser was also stupendous! We raised approximately $7,500 with our silent auction and ticket sales!! All around success.
Tuesday that same week I hopped on a plane to South America. It was a "planned hop" not a "spontaneous hop". I went to visit a good friend in Buenos Aires and BOY was that a trip for the books?! I met a ton of really neat people in a country where I was the foreign person (not many people experience that... it's intense and gives you a whole different breed of respect for people that come here from other countries) and I didn't know the language really at all. I could ask to use the bathroom but that's about the extent. Some of you are thinking "It's just Spanish, are you stoopid?" (yes, that was spelled wrong on purpose) and I have to respond "yes, HOWEVER, they don't speak Spanish, they have their own language called Castallano and while that has similarities to Spanish, it's not." You don't have to understand. Just know that I always knew where the nearest bathroom was.
I got home from Argentina after an adventure on the airplane (what with being delayed 9 hours and all).
OK yes, I want to tell you that story. So our driver (Jose) sent Martine (my lovely friend I got to visit) a text message saying "volcano canceled flights". My first thought is "Talented volcano..." followed by "Crap.. I'm supposed to have one of those today". We were in the middle of a lunch that was enough to feed a small army. It was 3pm and I was due to leave for the airport at 5pm. We walked (rather briskly) back to Martine's house only to find that my flight was not canceled, it was delayed 4 hours. That put my flight at midnight (which is ok... sleeping on a flight that takes about 9 hours isn't so bad during bed time). Shortly thereafter I got an email from Delta saying that the flight was then moved to 6am. This wouldn't be so bad except you have to be at the airport 3 hours in advance AND it was an hour drive to the airport. I got in the shower at 1:00am and my driver came at 2:30. I got to the airport in the nick of time only to find out that they put me on a flight for the next day!!! I was not a happy person. I called the manager over and calmly (as calm as you can be at 3am) explained to him that that was not going to work for me due to my family waiting for me in Chicago (for our annual 4th of July fishing trip) and that I NEEDED to be on the flight. After a 18 minute argument about the "Full Flight" I got a seat on the plane. (we may define "full flight" differently) I made it home.
I started my new job on July 11th (Whoo!!) and have since been working both jobs during my 30 day promotion restriction. That basically just says "because you're getting a promotion we're going to make you work twice as hard until we can find someone to take the other job". Which is cool because today is my LAST DAY of the old job. Yesss!
I have since gone to Duluth, all over the Twin Cities, Wisconsin (Lacrosse and Racine and all that fun stuff in the middle), and will be going to Fargo in the next couple of weeks. I am enjoying it a lot but challenging myself to learn slowly and thoroughly... That is a word. I didn't get the red squiggle under it when I typed it. SO all of that being said, I now have more time for Becca. And of course for you and this lovely blernal.
Anyway, this brings you to today and my super fun and exciting experience on a dating website. And for that, I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow. I will do my darndest (evidently not a word) to be more consistent than "every 2.5 months" with my posts.
So that's just another day in the life... for 2.5 months.
Til tomorrow!
