This day (not unlike the others) has been one for the books...
We began with a meeting with my boss in the cities. Had to talk about my progress in my new job as a sales person then worked into the sales process and how to do a Customer Needs Analysis (CNA). SURPRISE, we went to the Mall of America and I had to do a CNA on the MOA. It was really educational (moderately frightening), a great training exercise and much more than humbling in regard to how hard it really is to be a sales person. It gave me a more thorough insight into the daily trials that sales people face and how tough it really is to go through the entire process.
I'm excited. I like a challenge.
After my sales calls I was driving to Verizon to return my cell phone mount because for SOME unknown reason, it's set up so my phone faces the floor. That's just great. And for those of you that are thinking I'm an idiot, "It was not user error" as stated by the Verizon sales person. (On that note, I just got the new Incredible 2 Droid and I love it.)
After Verizon, I went to the local Walmart (not my favorite place in the world... Though I have some GREAT stories from my experience with the people of Walmart in Illinois. Awesome.) where I picked up some of life's essentials and saved money. I have yet to experience the "live better" as promised by the famous Walmart slogan.
Anyway, while in Walmart, I got a phone call from "Pancake".
This man in IT that was allegedly going to help me fix my computer. Pancake called and our conversation went something like this:
*ring ring*
Rebecca: Hello?
Pancake: Hi
Rebecca: Hi...
Pancake: Are you Rebecca
Rebecca: Yes... Can I help you?
Pancake: ............. Rebecca, are you Rebecca? Are you there, Rebecca? I'm Pancake.
Rebecca: Yes.
Pancake: Hi Rebecca.
Rebecca: Hi Pancake.
....this continued for approximately 4 minutes when he said something along the lines of:
Pancake: Omar say you need me to add you to administrative rights access, do you need me to add you to administrative access rights?
Rebecca: yes.
Pancake: Rebecca, are you there?
Rebecca: Yes, I need admin access.
(at this point, the people of Walmart are looking at me like I'M the weirdo.)
Pancake: Rebecca, am with Omar. Do you need administrator access?
Rebecca: Put Omar on the phone
Pancake: Omar he is not here.
Rebecca: I'll call Omar.
so I called Omar (and asked him why the heck he chose Pancake to be my IT selection) had to continue this conversation with Pancake upon my arrival to my parents house so I could get my admin access to install programs. Omar acted as our translator... though not ONCE did anyone speak a language other than English. He just didn't want to listen to me. Legit enough.
I can't count on less than 38 sets of fingers and toes, the number of times I have had to work with Tech Service in some way or another and hung up thinking to myself "By golly, I think I have a new best friend!!"? It's never the icing on my cake. I try to get it over with in the morning... That way the day can only get better. Versus taking the call in the afternoon (i.e.: today) and having to end the day on that note...
To that, I will leave you with a few of the videos I found about IT experiences... the first of which most closely reflects today.
The second one was my favorite. I bet it got you to smile. :)
Just another day in the life...
Rebecca
