Weekly Workout Challenge

OK, so here's the skinny.  I feel like I start some sort of workout program every week.  (I feel like I'm not the only one with this problem...  I might be wrong.  I don't know everything...)
You can see my most recent public attempt here.
This "quitter" 'tude stops TODAY.

I'm going to do a diet-do-over.  A 30-day cleanse/workout to get started. I'm not going to shoot for "skinny" as that wouldn't be sustainable for me... I'm lookin' for "healthy".  Leaner.

Now that I'm progressively getting more mobile, I want to begin my new year's resolution a bit early.  I have some wedding-fun to look forward to, and I want to be in tip-top shape!!  (Katie S., this one's for you!!)  Every time I go out of town for work (which is getting to be more and more), I end up trying to find somewhere healthy to eat-out.  A gym I like.  A dvd player to pop in one of the work-out video's.  It gets super challenging, let alone the desire to workout dwindles.  And I have a lot of excuses.  As you can see.

I haven't (to this day) committed whole-heartedly to a workout because I haven't found anything that I look forward to enough to keep me going.  I have taken recommendations and read about ten thousand different routines online and nothing has struck a fancy with me.  Go figure.
Another issue is that I absolutely LOVE to eat.  Everything.
FOR EXAMPLE: there's a place in Kenosha, WI that sells the world's best lasagna (Renzo's).  I kid you not, I could eat a whole pan of this stuff.  And I dang near did this-past week when I was staying in the hotel.  I was craving it.  And I'm not one to put up much of a fight when it comes to cravings.
Me: "I want lasagna."
My will-power: "No you don't."
Me: "Go back to sleep."
My will-power: "Ok."

So I usually just go for it.  I mean I'm semi-active, right?  I had to walk INTO the restaurant to buy it.  Sign the credit card receipt (that takes some muscle movement).  Carry it back to the car (it's heavy... it's like a 3-lb weight).  Put pressure on the gas pedal and the brakes (let workout?) to get home.  Walk it into the house... And eat... digesting burns calories, you know.

You see my issue?

So I have decided that TODAY I am committing to 30 days of torture... I mean healthy-living, and I will STICK TO IT.  I will need help, so any words of encouragement would be fantastic beyond recognition.

I will post "before" pictures when I have an "after".  Those things are so embarrassing.  I will write up progress as I move toward a goal - being healthier.  Again, I'm not looking to be a model, I'm looking for a healthier lifestyle and less fluctuation in weight and attitude.

The first week (today until next Friday), I will focus solely on no more salt or sugar.  This is serious business... Salt is everywhere.  And don't get me started on sugar.  This means no more wine, desert (when craved) will be a low-fat yogurt, and I will not add salt to anything/dig into something that has high sodium.

ALSO, I am going to work out.  In about 2 minutes.  I have the video in... I just wanted to tell someone I was going to do all this so I have some accountability.  (That means YOU, friend.  Make sure I follow the rules.)

That is all for today.
And please notice: I have written twice this week.  I must SERIOUSLY need the support with this one, folks! (hint, hint!)

Please and thank you!!

  1. I have also been working towards healthy living. What works for me is not thinking of it as a challenge and ban from foods, but rather as way to be creative with food and lifestyle. Finding inspiration in different recipes and food substitutions (for instance applesauce instead of eggs or butter on occasion in baking) can be fun!

Realizing that I do not like working out, I decided to do things that I LOVE and still keep me fit, such as dancing. Zumba classes are amazing! There is no instructor yelling at you, rather they use non-verbal clues on what to do and if feels like a dance party. Or there is the option of actually going to an all girl dance party (http://dancedancepartyparty.com/home.html) where you leave sweaty and content. Also just little things that make a difference - taking stairs instead of the elevator and walking the convenient store a mile away instead of driving. It helps me enjoy my surroundings more and get a little fitness on, without even realizing it!

Here is a healthy recipe that I love: http://www.vegetariantimes.com/recipes/11671 The fun thing about recipes is that they are only a suggestion, to be altered by taste. For instance, if you don't like quinoa (which is an awesome source of protein) and meat tickles your fancy, go ahead and put meat in or a happy medium of both!

Maybe some of these things will be right for you, maybe not. Either way, you can do it! Be healthy, but don't forget to have fun while doing it :)
